Succession planning is crucial for all lawyers (not just "seasoned" lawyers) - whether in a large firm, solo or in-house, to comply with ethical obligations, assure continuity of client care, and avoid having your files become property of the State Bar. What happens if you have a stroke while scuba diving on vacation or you need to take emergency leave to care for a family member in another state, or you voluntarily enter three months of in-patient treatment? What can and should lawyers do if they know of a lawyer who should not be practicing alone anymore or you are friends with a solo who suddenly passes away? The panelists will provide guidance as well as useful forms for helping plan the transition of a practice.
Panel: Lynda Shely, The Shely Firm, PC
Russell R. Yurk, Jennings, Haug & Cunninham L.L.P.
Melinda Sloma, Sloma Law Group, PLLC
